 Overview

This chapter involves the addition and subtraction of fractions with unknown numbers in the equation. As always when dealing with the addition and subtraction of fractions one should find the lowest common denominator. This rule will be applied in this section. In terms of standard type questions, a student should expect to see fractions with unknown numbers in the equation. The student should be able to find the L.C.D (lowest common denominator), and know algebraically how to solve each question

Study Tips,  Methods  and or Advice

STEPS to Keep in Mind:

·        Find the Lowest Common Denominator

·        Express each fraction as an equivalent fraction with the common denominator

·        Add the numerators. Write the sum over the common denominator

·        Simplify if possible

If one remembers these steps in order, they shouldn’t have any difficulties solving a standard type question.

Self Reflection

Personal Reflection – Zerlasht

I personally had a little difficulty with this chapter, because I was absent when the teacher was discussing it with us in class. I had to spend my own time to learn how to add and subtract rational expressions. It wasn’t that difficult learning it on my own because I already knew some of the key steps of adding and subtracting fractions and I just applied some of those rules in this chapter. Basically it wasn’t something totally new for me, I was familiar with most of the terms. I think that this web page is a great idea because when students need any math help for the future or just some study notes for the exam, this web page is very helpful. It’s a team effort, and were all helping one another by creating this. Ms. Demakopolous is a wonderful teacher and she helped me out a lot this year. She really knows how to teach and helps make math fun and easy to learn. Thanks a lot, I really enjoyed being in your class and hope that I have another class with you next year. Have a great summer everyone!!!
