 Overview

This section is about polynomials:

·        Factoring Polynomials

·        Operations with Polynomials

Students should be able to factor, simplify, expand, multiply, add and subtract polynomials. There are different ways to factor and they are shown in the methods section.

*Always check for H.C.F. first!

The distributive Law:

Left to right: expanding

Right to left: factoring

Step 1: Drop brackets

Step 2: Collect like terms

Remember: e.g.

Multiply every term in the second bracket by (-)

Self Reflection

I chose this topic because I like factoring but I can’t seem to get the hang of it, mainly because I can’t recall most of the stuff I did in grade 10. But because I repeatedly saw and wrote the factoring techniques a couple of times I think there’s no chance that I could forget it. I think factoring just takes a bit of practice, and then you don’t even think about it anymore, it will just come to you. Also because by then you will have seen so many kinds of equations, you know if its difference of squares, or a perfect trinomial.

It was easy to write equations on the paper when I was planning but when it came to typing, it seemed to take forever. Looking on my paper and then at the computer, back and forth for a non-stop hour. Typing the math on the computer literally drove me nuts! As time went by, I felt that I was getting faster at typing the math, using shortcuts to make it easier.

Math has always been an interesting course for me and I plan to take it in the future. I really enjoyed math this year and learned a lot. Ms. Demakopoulos - you’ve been an awesome teacher!
